The Inspiration

For years, Carbon Stride founder Anthony Calvey was frustrated by appearance of his transfemoral (above the knee) prosthesis.

As he explains, "I could either have a foam and stockingette cover, which looks awful and simply isn't durable.  Or I could 'go naked, leaving the components exposed, which wasn't practical and caused my trousers to hang un-naturally".

He continues, "Frankly, both options were embarrassing.  I certainly wasn't going to be wearing shorts and publicising the fact that I have an artificial leg!  There had to be a better solution."

Then one day, whilst admiring his Ducati 996SPS superbike, he had a Eureka moment.

"It dawned on me that the fairing on my motorcycle is practical, whilst enhancing its appearance.  This was just what I was looking for, for my prosthesis.  And so the Carbon Stride concept was born!"

Since creating the Carbon Stride 832 Fairing System, Anthony proudly shows off his creation, explaining, "Some amputees are very self conscious about anyone noticing that they wear a prosthesis.  However, when people see this, invariably I get a positive reaction.  Comments like 'WOW! That's awesome!' and 'Where can i get one?', which is fantastic!"

After designing and developing the system, Anthony compliment his creation to match his inspirational Ducati and 'pimp'd his stride' !
